I am most interested in second type of AI which can be called broad -search engines if they were turned into ai could be called broad ai- but if sustainability is the main innovation race we humans are in which human spaces on the planet did a (re)searcher know too well and not know at all- and did those who searched follow the 4 main language rule- you discover different things in if you know coding, english , one of knowledge ,most dominant character languages if chinese or japanese as well as every mother tongue -next did they understand the sort of map below of different sustainability challenges- us congress seems to be totally blind to the big issue - we will only go beyond carbon in time of usa and russia share a joint plan with resty of the world; equally if sustainability is about mother earth supporting 10 billion livelihoods at the same time then we need ai grounded in where the biggest pops are- half of the worlds population lives on less than 10% of land if your ai knows where to start exploring pop sustainability knowhow - last july UN's guterres started what i hoped would be the most exciting expereinced panel to date- it is due to report any day now on #DigotalCooperation www.digitalcooperation.org (official) www.digitalcooperation.net (friends) - unfortunatley the original idead of lets be guided by the fusion of 1 leading expert from every place and gender first has been diluted by saying inclusivity de,anded dialogues with 50 hubs along the way- I dont undersytand why we couldnyt have had the experts main chalenges forst and then debated them- anyhow if there is a digotal cooperation 2 i hope the flip its co-editors dp as guterres first specified not what some media managers seemed to believe was democratoc-
the other type of ai is caled narrow- and i think we have to be very careful here- there are perhaps 2 types of narrow- 1 is experienced - so it is legiytamate for one ai network to disciover everything a machine can learn from facial expressions and indeed sensors which may be how safe communities use g5 to watch over every public space or may be worn eg extextiles or directly on the skin see mit picard or apparently (i kid you not) monitored from our bath rooms where the most eprsoinal data on your health can be tracked- as you can see experienced narrow robotys raiuse all sorts of privacy questions thoiugh we argued in 1984 that eg cancer solutions would leap forward if an only if relevant big data platforms were designed
the type of narrow ai i have most problem with is experts - ie what academia siloises- here are some treasons why (as adam smith obserbed) british empitre hieratchy of education is niot the ways to distribute worldwide knowhow: tech people praise eg steve jobs for merging 7 markets that had previpously be driven by separated skillswts- ie academioc silos- the eraly open research on moocs found things that the big universiuties in west then desprately convered up- to the first million people who studied the chnage the wporld mooc - about 10 minutes of the 10 hours of content was more valuable than all the rest- it was stuff that was connecting every disciplne or exapliningh thaty each sustainability goals needed milennails to bring a diversity of q and a not one precedmt examined experts rule over how to invest- its very sad to me as a statisticain who has spent my lifetime trying to survey innovation that basic mathematical defintions of innovation clarified by eg einstein and von neumann are not used by big iuniversity busioenss schools of r indeed acadmic departments nor the biggest corporates or govgernments they hire themseles- if we are to be sustainable we need innovation to discover what we donty know how to do on the ground in a community that is deeply multipled by a combination of factirs that thise sitting in an ivory tower have no human experience of -we can end our species by assuming the same acaademic moindset tha has giot us this far should program the new ai- we can celebrate youth today as teh sustainability generation only if we tyotallyu transform edicatuion - as we started to map here in 1984
