during un week one of the breaking news stories out of clinton global summits was 10 million dollar first xprize for best elearning venture -co-sponsored with qualcomm san diego's  technology leaders
I got the chance to ask one of the los angeles adminstrators of this prize questions like my friends and I love several huge movements eg  the elearning satellite  www.yazmi.com but what sort of process are you really expecting by which I mean ceo Noah Samara of yazmi are going to  be too busy to enter a 6 year prize competition - equally fans of such an open structure can hardly submit an entry themselves
I was told that they aim to create an open space around prize entries so that anyone passionate can question whether there are bigger collaboration opportunities to linkin than the prize submission team first conceived of
So noticing the schedule eg initial prize registration feb 2015 I cheekily said if friends in san diego are organising 3000 youth summit tedx in april is that the sort of thing that xprize would want to speak at? - the person I spoke to said yes he would drive down to do that
so I will send a mail between xprize contact and  anna (in san diego) and naila (whose women4empowerment celebrates 20 years of village mobile partnerships next year)to start that conversation off and leave it open to add some more interests like yazmi or brac open learning campus partners want to know more from contact at Xprize

YAZMI as of 2 yeras ago is well known as it was part of meducation fair - yazmi as it is today isnt understood at all by anyone at usaid or co-partners of meducation summit

Do you know any high school head in dc region who would be happy to engage in this dialogue

Since jim kim came to the world bank in summer of 2012,  a social movement linking in every sort of profession millennials may study has been planted - over the next 5 to 15 years those graduating from high school today will need to network more change than any 15-year group ever. We parents and teachers could do best to help them do that 

I am doing informal work with how to popularise this out of the world bank and I wonder whether any teachers, parents , final years students would be interested in discussing this

Here is one of ten examples rehearsed last week. I will have made the other 9 transcripts in a few days. But more to the point we are looking how to repeat this sort of gathering every few months for as long as it takes.

I am Dbanj, and I am from Africa

I know you are thinking huh - that dark continent those backward people

 

Well I'm an entertainer, before I entertain you I would like to tell you a story about that Africa and how we used music to touch , inspire and empower our community

 

Yes the title of my story is Believe in Yourself

 

So around late last year an organisation called One campaign owned by Bono approached me, and said DBanj I want you to champion a movement in 2014. I said wait: am I going to meet Bono. They said if you believe. I said Oh I believe - sign me up - what do I have to do>

 

They say to me DBanj do you know that growth in agriculture is 11 times more effective at reducing poverty than any other sector? I said no- what about oil and gas. They said yes agriculture- so I said i want to be educated. I want to know what to do

 

So they took me on a three and half hour drive in Ghana. Well I have been to Ghana many times to perform in beautiful places but this was bad roads, no water  ...when I reached there they said this is one of the biggest cocoa plantation.. I said no way. I got talking to the small scale women farmers, I got to realise that in Africa = most of the uncultivated land left in the whole world is in Africa to do agriculture. So I said wow it s very important to us to unravel that hidden wealth

 

So I called upon my colleagues 18 of us. from 11 African countries and we did a song called coconut chocolate.. We did it because we wanted the farmers to know they are not alone, wanted them to know that agriculture can be trendy, very classy and you be a farmer and become wealthy

 

We didnt stop there. We said we want to sign a petition, We want over 500000 youth to sign this petition that our african leaders know that youth are involved now., and if we're involved what you need to do is to commit at least 10% of the annual budget to agriculture so that we can end [poverty.. I was the first to sign that petition in Addis Ababa , and I am telling you that in 4 months we got over 2 million youth signing the petition -that agriculture id the way, the bedrock of our foundation and if we focus on it we can end poverty

 

I am telling you for me personally my dream came true. I got to meet the legend Bono. And it didnt end there: at the just concluded african summit all the african leaders signed petition to commit 10% of the annual budget.on agriculture. So yes as I say to you through music we touched, we inspired and we empowered our community because we believe.

 

In conclusion, I am just this African youth, small boy from Lagos that believed in himself, that I can take this dream i believed in my passion , and so now what we started is why we are here: I am proud to tell you that if African youth are the future of Africa and Africa is the future of the world then I say it is important for us to empower youth, to educate youth so that when we know we not only end poverty but we eradicate hunger and are able to feed ourselves and the rest of the world. Now let me entertain you

Dear Intel elearning and... and friends of elearning  gamechangers for milennial and women empowerment

Enrique= Great meeting you at Intel's meducation stall at World Trade Centre DC yesterday

As agreed I will lob an email out there in case there are some win-win connections between all the exciting things that elearning and social action can connect around empowering millennials and women

In your home country Chile, Bernardo has started a movement connecting quite a lot of catholic universities in searching for social value cases as opposite to mba cases. In fact his friends are currently trying to get endorsement from Rome

Up in oregon is the world centre of grameen intel , though my understanding is that its this group's main talent centre is wizard technologists in Dhaka Bangladesh. I met Kazi Huque ceo of grameen intel oregon fairly early on after its formation as one of the last partnerships directly formed by Craig Barrett -and still the only yunus co-brand with a us parent that I can understand . More recently Stefanos and I attended the grameen intel partnership launch in new york with rome's IFAD and USAId of an eagri app aimed at tripling exports of cambodia's small rice farmers in under 3 years. My understanding is that grameen intel's social space is taking large databases and mobilising apps that reach the smallest producers. Stefanos is particularly interested in helping look for what might be grameen intel's first eagri app in Africa having a lot of infotech and agricultural connections among Ethiopian diaspora and beyond - Ethiopia forms the largest diaspora group in washington DC and is linked in to the 5 billion beings elearning satellite yazmi Meanwhile Naila was first female director of grameen phone in 1996. She came over to Dc region about 3 years ago and links in most exciting mobile networks of womens and youth empowerment. One of her partnerships is with africa's nanocredit - so she now has the responsibility for nanocredit partnerships in latin americas having introduced the African founder of nanocredit to many of her main mobile CEO leads in Asia and eg the head of ITU in Geneva

In the last month I have been surprised that e-agriculture has become triply sexy for millennials to access  even in DC

2 The week before Georgetown University Global Social Enterprise faculty teamed up with US secretary of agriculture to promote rural entrepreneurship youth inside usa.

3 And a few days before Naila's friend at the world bank hosted their first tedx of end poverty with co-stars Jim Kim and Dbanj (who is also apples social ambassador for the BEATS headphone brand - what Dbanj is promoting (transcript footonted) potentially brings eagriculture centre stage of all development efforts; in parallel I note that when jim kim talks of china he starts with Jack Ma's vision of using internet to give the smallest enterprises access through mobile apps to a level playing field of big dataset analsyis which once was the monopoly domain  of the world's largest organisations or exclusive higher education nerd-centres

Hope there are some active connections between some of you. Can I add in Anna out of San Diego and jean claude out of san francisco. Anna's been working with abused hispanic womens networks out of san diego for a very long time and SD can be a perfect place for the next tedx revolution in april. It was great to visit your world bank pakistan stall at ronald reagan meducation fair yesterday

Firstly congratulations of www.tpilums.org you seem to have some really useful citizen mapping cases there in your technology for people initiative

At one level I am interested in connecting asian and www millennials of technology- for some reason the world bank already has quite clearly identified african and americas networks but less so asian ones (or not that I have so far identified)

I have been over 10 times to Bangladesh to interview dr muhammad yunus since his first social business book in 2007. In the process I discovered that Naila (for 15 years the first female director of grameen phone) knew more about where the most exciting end poverty collaboration-mobile networks are around the world than anyone. Over the last 3 years she has been Dc-based www.women4empowerment.org . I realise you said you are back in Dc next week on Thursday and Friday after trip to New York. I hope we can at least find a time to skype

Stefanos is also DC based and his brother runs an addis ababa hub of youth technologists -so he too might be able to spot whether there are win-win connections between your work and other countries youth tech hubs

Mostofa is based in dhaka- while not a technologist as such he has been arranging tech interviews for me whenever I go over to Dhaka and is also interested in connecting millennials across asia

I am sure we would all be interested to hear a bit more about which subnetworks of world bank you connect most with (its such a big place) and which projects out of lahore you see as more collaborative or unique. Also I would love to swap notes- which of your fellow exhibitors strike you as essential to continue linking with

Also I have become fascinated by whether there are social learning curricula to be linked in round youth and peace laureate summits though not expert and navigating my cultural way round history's cultural and other crises. I start from simple belief that peace generates strong economies not other way round and wish to reduce arms spending everywhere. I did attend last years nobel laureate peace summit in warsaw, this years one due to celebrate mandela was cancelled due to a row over visas; while my family was a minor sponsor of a huge nobel laureate and youth entrepreneur convergence planned for atlanta november 2015 we have since been edged out of having any direct impact on that. I am not someone who chases after celebrities when they are at peak stages but I will continue to wonder if there is any helpful way citizens around the world can engage with this year's nobel peace laureates since of course this also brings us back to the core work of all of naila's friends

IF SCHOOLS were child centric they would make age relevant interventions:

if anyone is illiterate at age 6 it only takes 90 days to change that - best of all a literate kid can be main helper in 20 minute session - see sunita gandhi

finacial literacy would be practicsed from age 8 - see aflatoun ( works in 100 countries

from age 10 pre-teens would have access to pfysical and mental health studies designed peer to peer -see Lancet

no kid would leave primary school without knowing how open space meetings/teamwork is facilitated

teachers would be celebrated for clarifying which skills involve experiential learning not classroom examination - while there is some recognition that music and sports involve practice, its shocking that coding isnt valued this way ..

TECH - What is IT? and which exponential multipliers most impact human and natural futures?

AI   >. silicon chip singularity (ie when one chip > one brain in pure analytical capacity) - science fictiion no moore

who programs the ai - the race to include lost voices eg girls- the world of statistics re=-examined like never before (eg previously mass statistics very weak at coding meaining from numbers)

Biotech  >> Affective science (loveq and emotional intelligence remains human's unique edge over artificials for at least 10 more years!)

Some people say that Virtual or Augmented Reality has advanced at its best so far in last 12 months that there are hardly any qualified teachers only pioneering explorers- does this matter - well its VR which is your gateway to web3 - intead of just a mobile device you will like wear  a visual sensor system; equally others argue that you shouldnt worry about how fast you put googles on - what you should want is to take back ownbership of what you spend time creating virually- look at the small print of the big platforms you probably dont own anything without them..maybe this is a generation issue bu interstingly the met-generation can now work on chnaging anything that old systems are destroying (eg climate) ...t 

 IOT which things will now have brains and be as mobile connected as you are

one of the main debates how to help teachers in arctic circle schools empower their students to use virtual reality to visit other arctic circles schools communities; many of the changes and solutions are analogous; I am reminded by educators leading the compilation of virtual realty libraries of the DICE acronym - a reen might want to do something dangerous like climb everest, why not VR simulate that? there are impossible things a trainee doctor will never be able to travel inside a humans gut but that can be VR'd; there are catastropghic simulations - you would rid the world of bees just to test if donald is wrong about nature being more powerful than he is, you can simulate it; or the future of smart tourism may be curation of what a community is proudest of being visited for - this way ecotourism, cultural appreciation exchanges can be twinned to maximise celebration of each other- and by the way friends of the tourist can join in virtually- of corse this raises a metaverse question - that Hong Kong is leading the world on
