we should never forget that good news in agriculture is the most cheering news in the world- this chart from my father's 1977 survey in The Economist supported his survey of China as the growth nation that all millennials need to celebrate in collkaborating with any win-wins they can search out
x This week http://ifad.org/media/press/2014/53.htm carries an interesting update on Grameen Intel's goal of helping Cambodia become the next rice basket to the world
where do you search for news that links sustainability, ending rural poverty, nutrition and crop productivity?
i would love to hear your views chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk -
i'm no expert but historically I search alumni out Borlaug and Nippon Institute, I trust good news from BRAC, Grameen Intel and IFAD; I listen to diaspora networks (such as those hunted out by USADBC.org and young professionals on Jim Kim's 2030now mission
Grameen-YukiGuniMaitake Social Business is a joint venture between Grameen Krishi Foundation, Bangladesh, YukiGuni Maitake Ltd, Japan and Kyushu University, Japan with further support from Japan's JICA and JETRO. The aim of this venture is high quality mung bean and export them to Japan, generate extra income for the farmers, promote long term friendship with Japan in terms of agriculture. Launched with 8000 Bangladeshi farmers- expected to scale to far more once systems have been fine tuned
A second crop is expected to be a kind of Sprout Japanese value most for nutrition, Currently Japan imports these sorts of highly nutritious vegetables from China and a little from Myanmar- why not Bangladesh too? more at http://gym.gramweb.net/category/gmy-news/
how many markets has brac designed in bangaldesh to sustain miaximum number of livelihoods as well as great customer service - linkedin debate
Don't you just love economics and media?
case
freeing poultry market. Sir Fazle ABED observed that a 1970s Bangladeshi villager couldnt earn a living with the number of eggs the scrawny village chicken used to lay. So BRAC bred a super chicken that lays many times more eggs. But because it does more work the superchicken needs vet attention. Count up the 5 job descriptions that redesign the value chain of the whole poultry market in bangladesh:
breeding superchicks
vetting superchicks
villagers laying eggs with superchicks
now that villages have surplus eggs retaining them to cities
producing chicken feed from land not able to support human crops
BRAC is Bangladesh's leader of poultry market. It cooperatively frees the market not by taking profit from the village workers every quarter but my maximising income generation across all 5 microfranchise jobs described above. That's employment for over 100000 previously-poorest people that the "chicken microfinance plus bank "mediates and economically sustains. A microcurrency of a bank that is increasing productivity of all ist members sustainably provides a model of safest banking in the world that brac shares with association of like-minded bank leaders http://gabv.org
