Africa- innovations in Digital & Cooperation the youngest continent needs

Edition Ghana 1 of 20 // africa updates - (also meesy crypto curation atgreenbigbang.com )
Dear Friends (up in new york for a while -wondered where there could be inspiration and action overlaps)
some questions- curating components of the UN that excites me most in valuing youth is tech envoy(digital cooperation un2 roadmapping)
in tracking how this emerged from 2016 when sdg4 first annual review (I attended in NY) was so hopeless that jim kim and others (jack ma melinda gates ..) decided to go link education with tech ITU Houlin in geneva and world trade unctad then run by Kenyan Kituyi - jack ma with kituyi had started training about 400 youth tech wizards across africa before his life purpose (he had promised tro be full time education and celebrating olympic youth by 2020) was  seemingly one of first ruined by  combo of trump and covid
these are things I have seen and wonder if are connected with your collaboratory (purpose sustainability & all africa education/livelihoods with youth population doubling by 2050) as well as whether any of your team is animating events in new york over next 2 weeks
do you have any direct relationship with people at un hq https://www.un.org/techenvoy/  -with 6 years of research on digital cooperation across hemispheres- there is so much there more than one flat screen is likely to curate you to; worse there have e=been about 4 changes in overall leadership (one leader got embroiled in me too); at same time 2 of the younger assistants have ket thousands of twitter connections linked in as they zoomed lots of meeting during covid areas including 8 brainstorming sessions guterres zoomed personally at hi levels https://www.un.org/techenvoy/sites/www.un.org.techenvoy/files/List_...
it appears for example that the government of Ghana participated in the AI roundtable but not eg Global Connectivity where Ethereum participated
guterres homework for UN 2023
guterres is preparing 2023 summit future by hunting out gutsy youth ambassadors - al lead example is from ghana https://www.linkedin.com/in/ayachebbi/ are you already connected with her- she's hugely synergetic with my 16 trips to bangladesh in terms of young women system changers- fazle abed wanted his legacy as first global education laureate to be connecting all graduate female sustainability alumni (the opposite of the exclusivity and silo models of places like harvard or even berkeley)
hugely interesting is http://www.sdgemetaverseprize.org
its the first year round colege competition with 17 trach networks one for eacg sdgs
primarily it asks teams of 2-6 to choose one sdg- script a viral story; start designing how that story zooms the metaverse; the prize was launched by 3 groups (this year registarion by december)
UN tech networks especially itu
rwanda
xprize staff (who had also helped the ITU become the year round AI epicentre of digital UN)
because of the rwanda launch at lest 1000 african entries are expected
(rwanda is interesting as its where partners in health paul farmer died in trying to develop africa's model training hosdpital; does anyone know how jim kim now sperads his reposnibilities between eg partners in health and the african owned global infarstructure investment nbank which seems to be headquarterd in new york)
finally i hear taddy blecher who as tribute to mandela final years started south affricas new uni variously known as dia or maharishi now advises top parts of uk gov foreign policy on education but as yet nobogy I know has made comatct with him; ironically he is also employed by singularity university the woner of xprize
as you can see lot of loose connections - but i beleieve any comnnecytion made can help with guterres main overal quest - if un can be a model of un2.0 public service and cooperation around youth sustainability solutions then any gov can benchmark that as can any last mile service be that food, health, refugess, edu , womens produuctivity/safety
given last wise winner ny headquarterd wendy kopp committed her 60 teachers associations including https://teachforall.org/tags/teach-ghana do you she and other wise laureates connect with each other- personally i think it a tragic dilution that qatar was sidelined and dubai appointed as epicentre of much of the education networks abed and sheikha moza and you and camfed had connected- as gutrerres reported last week we are now behing on sdgs than when launched in 2015 and spinning backwars- only education tech cooperation can help youth be the change (imo)
at yale club hosted afric event on thursday - if any freindsd are there or other parts of enw york please relay mail if relevant
has anyone connecetd with reeta roy - i believe she carries on in africa some of the most urgent agendas abed and indeed qatar foundation/bloomberg live  expected Mastercard Foundation, Africa CDC Execs on Vaccines in Africa

oday's digital revolution enables economies and drives innovation across all economic sectors. Africa, its people, and its leaders continually battle the double challenge of achieving SDG targets and adapting to climate change. More than 30% of primary-school-age girls remain out of school in Sub-Sahara Africa. Also, Africa's contribution to global scientific knowledge stands at 1.1%. Consequently, Africa's ratio of scientists and inhabitants currently stands at 79 scientists per million inhabitants, the lowest. Also, scientists trained in Africa often work elsewhere due to the lack of infrastructure and availability of resources.

Hence, this session will consider how African youth can be prepared to be creative leaders in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and embody excellence in science and technology by tackling Africa's mega challenges. The session will also examine how the African Institute of Mathematical Sciences is enabling young people in Africa through innovative education to address the continent's mega challenges. This session will also feature a movie by AIMS titled Wajenzi (means builder in Swahili).

Expected outcomes

The expected outcomes of this session include;
1. Appreciate the current challenges surrounding scientific excellence and training in Africa.
2. An opportunity to map the opportunities within the challenges for innovation.
3. Awareness creation on the value proposition of AIMS and how our alums are changing the way we see our world.
4. Amplify the need for innovative financing in funding education across Africa.

About AIMS

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a Pan-African Network Centres of Excellence for postgraduate training, research, and public engagement in mathematical sciences. Founded in 2003 in South Africa and later replicated in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, and Rwanda under the framework of the Next Einstein Initiative, AIMS is supplying the STEM pipeline by training African students for a Master's in Mathematical Sciences, including a co-operative option with a direct link to industry. Students admitted at AIMS benefit from full scholarships and close interaction with tutors and professors worldwide. AIMS has trained 2500 young scientists over the past two decades. The faculty comprises volunteer professors from the best universities globally, including Nobel Prize and Fields Medal laureates.

survey 1of child centric education

My dream: everyone experiences Harrison Owen OpenSpace After%20the%20Rage.pdf

IF SCHOOLS were child centric they would make age relevant interventions:

if anyone is illiterate at age 6 it only takes 90 days to change that - best of all a literate kid can be main helper in 20 minute session - see sunita gandhi

finacial literacy would be practicsed from age 8 - see aflatoun ( works in 100 countries

from age 10 pre-teens would have access to pfysical and mental health studies designed peer to peer -see Lancet

no kid would leave primary school without knowing how open space meetings/teamwork is facilitated

teachers would be celebrated for clarifying which skills involve experiential learning not classroom examination - while there is some recognition that music and sports involve practice, its shocking that coding isnt valued this way ..

==============

Do you have life-changing moment to share? - what was it and what did you think or do differently after it?

example until 9/11, i assumed that (good) futures are happening somewhere in the world and would be searched out so that all could communally replicate them;  === 9/11 caused me to question whether global connectivity will give us time to find sustainable solutions for our kids- i became particulaly interested in places where good education leaps appeared but did not get app'd the world over - one example actually goes back to my favorite 1990s advances in schools that a small cliuster of new zealand schools pioneered - download it here https://oiipdf.com/download/the-learning-revolution

i welcome discussion of this book's parts at any time rsvp chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk if you have a solution every community that develops youth could be cooperational

in 1984our book with economist editors 2025report made the case for 40 year commitment to every child identifying own skils dashboard and maximising AI curation of this- we valued this as sustainability critical worldwide cooperation - we see no logic for changing this concern

== we live in an age where most up to half of knowhow of techforgood changes every 3 years - we needed mindsets for exploration not for being standard examined; a nation that makes its college students its largest debt class is likely to collapse economically socially environmentally if web3 is designed for celebrating sustainability cooperation; and if web3 is not designed for neough yout to linkin the first sustainability generation then we are all heading the way of the dodo

I am learn to learn

chris.macrae@yahoo.co.uk

TECH - What is IT? and which exponential multipliers most impact human and natural futures?

AI   >. silicon chip singularity (ie when one chip > one brain in pure analytical capacity) - science fictiion no moore

who programs the ai - the race to include lost voices eg girls- the world of statistics re=-examined like never before (eg previously mass statistics very weak at coding meaining from numbers)

Biotech  >> Affective science (loveq and emotional intelligence remains human's unique edge over artificials for at least 10 more years!)

Some people say that Virtual or Augmented Reality has advanced at its best so far in last 12 months that there are hardly any qualified teachers only pioneering explorers- does this matter - well its VR which is your gateway to web3 - intead of just a mobile device you will like wear  a visual sensor system; equally others argue that you shouldnt worry about how fast you put googles on - what you should want is to take back ownbership of what you spend time creating virually- look at the small print of the big platforms you probably dont own anything without them..maybe this is a generation issue bu interstingly the met-generation can now work on chnaging anything that old systems are destroying (eg climate) ...t

 IOT which things will now have brains and be as mobile connected as you are

Crypto - can communities celebrate financiang their own most urgent sustainability cooperations? if they dont who wil?

Cyber >> Drone - opportunities and threats of public spaces- first in spaces like the arctic circle if we dont use drones we will get no warning before the big meltdown

-the mkist memorable western campus event i attended in 2010s was tufts colllaboratory summit convened mainly by arctic circle youth under 25;

one of the main debates how to help teachers in arctic circle schools empower their students to use virtual reality to visit other arctic circles schools communities; many of the changes and solutions are analogous; I am reminded by educators leading the compilation of virtual realty libraries of the DICE acronym - a reen might want to do something dangerous like climb everest, why not VR simulate that? there are impossible things a trainee doctor will never be able to travel inside a humans gut but that can be VR'd; there are catastropghic simulations - you would rid the world of bees just to test if donald is wrong about nature being more powerful than he is, you can simulate it; or the future of smart tourism may be curation of what a community is proudest of being visited for - this way ecotourism, cultural appreciation exchanges can be twinned to maximise celebration of each other- and by the way friends of the tourist can join in virtually- of corse this raises a metaverse question - that Hong Kong is leading the world on

being 100% public - good and bad hacs- note context matters - context 1 smart city context 2 isolated vilalge no moore context 3 make a huge land safe at borders
